Below is a power point presentation that we have put together to familiarize you with the equipment and process of learning to fly Radio Control airplanes.

 114th RC Aerosquadron Training

Once you have viewed the Power Point presentation lets look at the below pictures of spatial  disorientation.  This is a common problem that beginners need to become accustom to when learning to fly radio control models.  Click on the below ".40 Stick Airplane" and view it as it fly's past you on the flight line.  Imagine how it would look.

Now the same airplane minus depth perception and the contrast needed to distinguish spatial orientation  you see that the plane looses it's color and turns black, the pilot can no longer tell if the plane is going away or coming towards them.  Now the crucial decision must be made "which way do I move the control sticks."

A larger more complicated aircraft only aggravates spatial disorientation by having more appendages to look at, the pilot may become so focused trying to figure out which way is which he/she actually watches the plane crash still trying to decide which way to move the control sticks.  RC pilots call this phenomenon "Popsicle Syndrome" where the pilot is frozen on the sticks..
